When you’re young, you have lots of energy to sprint really fast in your work.
Yet many young people don’t use that energy.
They are scared.
It’s easy to jog rather than sprint.
Because when you sprint into a specific field, you are cutting off going into other fields.
Once you sprint in one direction, it becomes harder to sprint into another.
So most young people optimize for optionality.
Jogging allows for them to pivot to a different path at a moments notice and not be too deep into anything.
Consulting, banking, big tech or a random startup.
These jobs give young people more opportunities.
The only intention behind them is to open up more choices in the future.
Sprinting leads to more volatile outcomes.
It leads to less choices in the future…
But jogging means you’re not going full speed. It means complacency. It means indecision. A lack of conviction…
If you want to be on the extreme end of success, you need to be willing to sprint towards work that you believe in.
How about jogging till you find you passion then sprinting??
