Putting 2022 in Motion
It’s been a month since I’ve last written an article on Grow with Aidan.
Partly due to the holidays and international travel, but I think that’s just an excuse.
The truth is — I have had the time to write.
It might not sound like much, but I struggle writing a newsletter to 75 different people in the hopes you all read it.
Grow with Aidan began as me writing to a few friends and family, and has escalated to people like you reading my work that I do not know. This brings me immense joy and gratitude. :)
One of my goals is to write to 1,000 people by the end of the year. If you feel compelled, please share this newsletter.
As we transition to a new calendar year, we are granted a natural opportunity for reflection and realignment.
What is Grow with Aidan?
Along my journey into writing publicly, one piece of advice that I’ve always received was to focus on a particular topic.
“People need to know what they are going to get when they read Grow with Aidan”
But, this has never sat well with me….
My goal is to share my growth journey with the world in the hopes of creating a community of people who want to grow together.
I believe by authentically sharing my own personal growth journey, it might help empower others.
Life is multifaceted which makes it interesting and beautiful.
So while I intend to cover how science and technology when developed at startups can improve millions of lives — I’ll also cover my own personal hobbies, intellectual curiosities and ways I try to become the best version of myself.
If this sounds fun to you, then you’re in the right spot.
Creating Goals for 2022
A lot of people surprisingly don’t set goals.
In my experience, I’ve always been amazed at the power of taking a few hours to really think about what you want to accomplish.
Even if those goals change, the act of setting them is valuable. When you look back, you’ll get to see what you once wanted, and set new goals based on what’s important to you now.
Goals aren’t the be all end all. It’s an ever evolving process of discovering what you want and going for it.
My process for setting goals has changed over the years.
At one point I broke my goals into different categories: professional, personal, health, financial, relationship, etc. These categories can be structured in your own way that best suit your life.
This year, I set 5 high priority goals. If I achieve those, everything else will be okay. And while I did set other goals, I got crystal clear with my focus.
If you set goals, or have questions about setting goals, I’d love to hear from you in the comments.
Consistency over Intensity
We are now getting clear on we need to do to make 2022 the best year of our lives. We are also realizing that tuning in to Grow with Aidan (and me writing it), will help us grow on our journeys.
As the year unfolds, it’s important we remember the following concept if we want to become the best versions of ourselves.
Consistency is how we achieve success. Not intensity.
“It’s not about intensity, it’s about consistency…. if all you do is go to the dentist twice a year, your teeth will fall out. You have to brush your teeth twice a day for two minutes…”
— Simon Sinek
Whatever we decided for our goals, we might only stay at it for a few days or weeks but lose momentum and go back to coasting through life.
We need to fight this aggressively.
If we are less focused on the initial intensity at achieving our goals, and more focused on the consistency of the work, then we’ll achieve what we set out to do.
